Dolomites, Alps, June 2010

A phantastic week in the Dolomites.

Weather was great and mountains were as good as they could possibly be.

This time we added another dimension to our report with two videos taken by Thomas.

Overview

Map 2010_06_alpen

A total of 1227 miles within the mountains and a total of 1941 miles to ride.

Our group was Tom, Irmgard, Martina, Thomas and Wolfgang.
Wolfgang and Irmgard are on a BMW R1150GS. Thomas has a slightly tuned Ducati Streetfighter (just some carbon parts, more power, more displacement, some other extras). And I have my BMW K1300R with me.
I went to Wolfgang and Irmgard in Schwabmünchen and then we went to Canazei at Pordoi Pass where we meet Thomas and Martina
Day 1

I went cross country to Schwabmünchen.

On my way I have seen a deer
(ok, it was inside an enclosure)
Wolfgang has a plastic cow painted in German colors in his stable
Day 2

We go from Schwabmünchen into the Dolomites passing Hantenjoch, Timmelsjoch (one of my Top 3 passes), Jaufenpass and Penser Joch

The first video shows how we get down Pordoi to Canazei
The other shows the 30 minute ride up Rolle Pass cut down to 6 minutes. I just run into an Italian local and then just stayed behind him. This ride was a lot of fun
In the evening we have a beer or a grappa or both and talk about the day as we did all the days.
Day 8

We have to say goodbye to the Dolomites. Wolfgang, Irmgard and I return to Schwabmünchen and Thomas and Martina move on to Gavia Pass for another night in the mountains.

Day 9

Just getting home. It is extremely hot (around 100 F) and it is a lot of slab. But after such a great week you simply ignore such minor things and you are just thinking you have to go back to the mountains as soon as possible.
